Juergensen Marine

Welcome to the Diving Pages of Juergensen Marine.

Here's where it all began... Well, maybe not "begun" but it's where we started to learn a lot about CCR's:

That's Hal Gartner in the background, and me in the foreground, building a set of Revision G Analog electronics for Hal's CCR-1000 - dozens of components, 3 circuit boards hooked together with a zillion wires. Whew. Took 2 days just to build and test one set by hand.

Back then, as now, the Juergensen Shop was open to just about anyone the wind blew in to work on their CCR's in a friendly, nurturing, and thoroughly messy environment. Here, Hal tears down someone elses Mark 15 Center Section, a common practice in the early days of CCR diving, where the motto "Pack Your Own Parachute" was more like "Go Ahead, Pack the Other Guy's Parachute - You Don't Know Him Anyway..."

Along with Hal Gartner, Dr. Peter Heseltine was one of the earliest benefactors of Juergensen Marine. That means, essentially, that they paid in advance. Peter even served as Co-Best Man at my wedding (yeah, I had two - I'm like a chick, I couldn't choose one guy over the other...).

One of our first modifications/improvements to the Mark 15 was an improved Horseshoe Board, complete with Banana Plug Mod. We since figured out even more better ways of doing this same task, and are now up to Revision 7 of the board itself.

I never claimed to be a genius, but I've known a few, and one of the smartest things I ever did was complain to my friend Will Smithers (on the right above, in a picture taken at my bachelor party) about how long it took me to build the Analog electronics (mentioned above). He suggested it would be "easy" to design a digital circuit - Yeah. Easy for him, that is. What commenced after that was a mutual collaboration and friendship that would span some years, 3 generations of electronics, countless laughs, conversations, philisophical discussions, you name it. Damn, I miss him.

And here's where we are today - new 5,000 square foot facility on a 60 acre compound, complete with huge shop, and instead of just fixing Mark 15's for friends, we're now the official Cis Lunar Service and Repair Facility, and build Hammerhead Mark IV electronic assemblies for numerous different CCR's.

Our technicians rebuild, restore, retrofit or repair everything from Mark 15's, Mark 5's, CCR-1000's, CCR-2000's BMR-500's, Inspirations, and now even some Megalodons. Not bad for a little shop that started off in North Hollywood.

DIVING STUFF FOR SALE!!

We here at Juergensen Marine rarely endorse products, but one guy, Pat Duffy, the founder of "OxyCheq" has stepped up to the plate and done some pretty amazing things to help Rebreather Divers everywhere. Pat was a white-collar professional guy who got tired of getting hosed by the so-called diving "professionals" for inferior service and products. He especially hated paying top dollar for Oxygen Sensors that lasted less than a year in his Mark 15 CCR. There were two notable companies selling Oxygen Sensors at the time for the Mark 15, and both sensors had room for improvement.

Patrick decided to do something about it, and contacted the Teledyne Company, one of the largest manufacturers of Oxygen Sensors for the Medical and Industrial field. They also manufactured hyperbaric sensors, but not in the mV range needed for the Mark 15 Electronics. Pat convinced the folks at Teledyne that there was a market for these particular sensors, and now is the largest distributor of these sensors, which we consider here to be the best we've ever seen.

But that's not all Pat did - he started taking a look at what went into making an Oxygen Analyzer, and came up with an incredibly inexpensive working prototype, which he dubbed the "El Cheapo" Analyzer. He decided to offer these for sale, and they sold like hot cakes.

He then developed a completely new design and called it the "Expedition" analyzer.

From that, he has developed a whole raft of new products, and is now one of the fastest growing rebreather/diver supply companies in the world, which just goes to show you that when REAL businessmen enter the rebreather market, watch out - 'cause there's going to be some asses kicked and some names taken...
