CALIBRATION

To calibrate the HUD unit, simple turn the unit on, then flood your loop with 100% Oxygen. You can do this either in your loop, or separately in a plastic bag. Be sure to use the SAME Oxygen Sensor(s) you will actually be diving with to calibrate your loop!

Once you have flooded your loop, and are reasonably sure that the sensors are now stabilized in 100% Oxygen (or as close to it as you can get), simply depress the Push Button. The LED will begin to flash Red/Green/Red/Green for about a second or two, letting you know that calibration is in progress. After that, the LED should glow Orange for each sensor. If not, you need to verify your connections to the sensor(s).

While it is not necessary to re-calibrate after every dive, we encourage you to calibrate often. The response of Oxygen sensors can vary greatly from day to day and dive to dive, and it is always best to have your calibration as current as possible.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

There is really nothing you should have to do to maintain your HUD unit, with the exception of making sure that all the components are protected from any contact with water. It bears repeating that water, especially salt water is the enemy of anything electronic. One drop of water can destroy your HUD beyond repair, and endanger your life.

FINALLY

It should go without saying in any kind of technical diving that you proceed at your own risk, should you choose to utilize any kind of Oxygen Monitoring Device. These things are not perfect, nor are they infallible. Nothing should replace your own good sense in diving any form of scuba equipment. When used properly, this HUD can be a wonderful way to verify your ppO2 while diving, but if you do not exercise common sense, you can die using this unit or any other for that matter. There are two things that you must absolutely know without the use of any device underwater, your Fraction of Oxygen in your breathing gas, and your Depth. If you are using a semi-closed system, you will also need to know your flow rate and personal metabolism. There is NO substitution for this knowledge. Every time you go underwater with any device, be it mechanical or electrical, you are betting your life that it will work, or that your personal skills as a diver are sufficient to save you in the event that they do not. Be safe - make sure you are properly trained for the equipment you will be diving, carry backup, and verify, verify, verify the operation of any electronic device you may use to monitor your Oxygen content.
